Welcome to the Isle Royale Info site. This site is dedicated to providing information about Isle Royale National Park located in Lake Superior. It is meant to be a central point of reference for anyone wanting to go there, or just know more about Isle Royale.
This journal details a trip to Isle Royale National Park, in the Spring of 2013, through words, pictures and videos.
This is a preliminary outline of what I hope to be a full movie one day featuring videos, pictures and narration of the trip. This was truly a unique trip and, most likely, a once in a lifetime experience on the island due to the conditions.
Day Four: Tuesday, May 7th
8:30 am, 37° in shelter, 29.40" steady, steady:
I am just enjoying my first cup of coffee. It is a lovely day with a totally blue sky and no wind to speak of. I slept wonderfully again. I don’t know what it is about being out here, but I just lay down and boom, I am asleep for the entire night. Unlike the battles I have at home. I guess I am meant to be here! We have decided to stay here today. We discussed going to Three Mile, but it is not worth the extra tear downs, loadings, etc. as we have both spent time there. We can finish exploring this island today. I am going to make another pot of coffee then go outside and enjoy this beautiful day.
11:20 am, 46° in shade, 29.40” steady, steady:
I just had two packets of oatmeal and I am finishing off my third pot of coffee. We are sitting on the other picnic table in the warm meadow. We moved it from against a tree by the other shelter to here. There are some puffy clouds in the sky now, but not many and they actually feel good when they block the sun.
12:15 pm:
I am just back from walking down to the dock for a bit. The trail to the dock has melted a lot. You can actually walk all the way down and only have to step on snow once. The lake is perfectly flat. Nancy is busy sewing some strips on her sleeping bag liner. We are having a very relaxing day today. Like a vacation day. The only thing on the agenda is walking along the south shore later. Other than that, we plan on just relaxing and enjoying the great weather.
1:48 pm:
A Park ranger boat just went past going to Rock Harbor. It is the first one since we have been here. I am surprised by that, but I am not complaining.
Usually you hear them going back and forth all day here.
3:15 pm:
We are going to go and hang out on the south shore for a while.
8:09 pm, 57° outside, 29.25":
We spent awhile on the south shore then came back and made our dinner and went and scooped water for filtering. We then ate our dinners of Ramen noodles and put on some warmer clothes. It has been a lovely day. We both have gotten a bit sunburned on the trip. We are going to make our way down to the dock for the sunset. It will be the third night in a row with a clear sky for it.
9:45 pm:
We are back from the sunset and sitting at the picnic table. It was another beautiful sunset. We are getting spoiled with this weather. I know it will change, but this has been a great stretch of sunshine and warmth for this time of year
10:50 pm:
We are heading into the shelter and our warm sleeping bags. It was another great day on the island. Tomorrow we are packing up and heading to Caribou Island. I am looking forward to going there. It should be great this time as it is usually a popular campground but, we are the only ones here this time. Nancy has never been there and I am glad she will get to see it along with the fishery, lighthouse and Cemetery Island.
